Tammy on Election Night 1998

The voters in Wisconsin's Second Congressional District made history in 1998 when they elected Tammy Baldwin to Congress.  The first woman from Wisconsin and the first openly gay non-incumbent elected to Congress, Tammy aptly holds the seat once occupied by the father of progressive politics in America, "Fighting Bob" La Follette.

Tammy Baldwin took office in January 1999 focused on achieving the goals of health care for all and equal rights for all while advocating for constituents who come from diverse geographic, ethnic, racial, and socio-economic backgrounds.  Whether pushing for federal legislation or helping an individual navigate the rules and procedures of a vast federal agency, Tammy is a strong, effective voice for those she serves.
